Title: Freedom to Serve: Equality of Treatment and Opportunity in the Armed Forces: A Report by the President's Committee
Final report of President Truman's Committee on Equality of Treatment and Opportunity in the Armed Services. The committee was established by Executive Order 9981, on July 26, 1948. Its purpose was to recommend revisions of military regulations in order to implement the government's policy of equality of treatment and opportunity for all members of the armed forces, regardless of race, color, religion or national origins. The committee, chaired by Charles Fahy, terminated upon submission of its final report on May 22, 1950. The final report was entitled Freedom to Serve.
