Writes to her cousin, "I am going to write to an unknown cousin... but hope that we may have the pleasure soon of forming an acquaintance. Notes that if he came to cousin Joseph Irving's school for a visit that he would not recognize her. Confides in him that she weighs 173 pounds. Asks that he come for a visit. Adds, "Do you feel like marching down there and whipping some of those Southerners? I am looking every day to hear that war has commenced and I fear if it does that there will be blood shed for some time."
