Asks if Knox might lend Mason fifteen dollars to book passage to Boston or Springfield on Bryant's account, and Bryant will pay him back out of the first income he receives.

Captain Bryant encloses a return of stores at Springfield (not included). Reports on other events at Springfield, including a disagreement over the rights to a house on Captain George Pynchon's land. Reports that when General [Benjamin] Lincoln was at Springfield, he dismissed the men stationed there, ordering Bryant to make out a pay roll. Bryant complains that Lincoln thereafter sent money to the men, but not to him: "I have near twenty five months pay due and know not who to apply to for aney [sic] but to your Honour- necessity has obliged me to run in debt..."

Captain Bryant writes to Secretary of War Armstrong after being informed by the new superintendent that he will be dismissed from his position as Master of Ordinance and Assistant Military Storekeeper at the armory in Springfield, Massachusetts. Notes that his usefulness has been reduced "by the infirmities of age," but in hopes of retaining his post, he recounts his service during the Revolution, which included losing his right arm at Fort Constitution in Fort Lee, New Jersey in 1776 and a long period as Deputy Commissary of Military Stores at the armory.
