Photograph of A. Lincoln and his ten-year-old son "Tad" reading. (with tax stamp on back). An enduring popular image of Lincoln and his youngest son. This informal joint portrait, taken in Brady's Washington studio, features Lincoln seated with a album of carte-de-visites on his lap; Tad, dressed in his best clothes, including watch fob and chain, stood on his father's left while they studied the album.

The cabinet card has Brady's imprint on the recto and verso, and is a variant of O-92 without the table and with Lincoln's lower hand cut-off (see Ostendorf p. 176). The negative was taken by Anthony Berger and is the basis for Lincoln on $5 bill (until 2008).
