Knox notes receipt of Constable's letter of 17 September 1790. Writes that although he told Constable on 23 July that he would "accept the terms...for the St. Lawrence lands," three months have gone by and he cannot be expected to honor the same agreement.

Title: to Henry Knox

Took the liberty of drawing 75 dollars from Knox. Will repay him in 2 or 3 months. Tells Knox the notes that William Bingham gave him "are at too long sight to avail myself to raise any thing for the present Expense of my Family." Has no one but [Benjamin] Walker to ask aid from, and Duer claims he has asked too much from him lately. Needs about 300 pounds for his family to get by for three months. Wants to know if Knox will answer the draft of William Hill at 5 days sight for $375. Also wants Knox to give Hill leave to draw another $375 on 1 April. Pledges on his honor to pay it back…

Title: to Henry Knox

Encloses a paper which his clerk omitted to previously send along (not included). Reports "I cannot well conceive what Mr. [William] Lewis means by saying that, the Vouchers I sent will not be admitted as Evidence - The Originals must be undoubtedly produced in the Part of the United States, in order to establish their Advances." Believes the balance claimed by the U.S. is not well founded. Says Daniel Parker's testimony will be important. Trusts every effort will be made to postpone the trial. Address leaf has been partially cut off.

Says the letter is being delivered by Mr. Bauncol, the agent to Monsieur D'Espremenil. Duer reports he offered D'Espremenil a part of township 7 before he sold his stake in the Eastern Lands to Knox and William Bingham. This was done because D'Espremenil ceded lands in the Scioto purchase and became a sutler there. Believes this was a fair deal and hopes Knox and Bingham will live up to the agreement.

Wants Dearborn to return a book of maps he borrowed from the War Department. Dearborn was using it to find the right spot for a lighthouse "on Leguin." Knox says he needs it for his work on the committee appointed to fortify harbors and seaports. It will be sent back to Dearborn. Initial "H" at end of the letter.

Dane discusses a proposition Knox offered him the day before. Dane details the provisions of the propositions of "Mr. Thorndike." Dane lists the finances and land purchase opportunities related to this matter, mentioning Henry Jackson and Benjamin Lincoln. Dane wants to make sure there would be security in this transaction. Knox is offering some of his land as security.

Davis has received Knox's letter regarding "Trucky" and "Johnson." Davis believes he will have to work with Truky "as the receipt...expressly recognizes that he is to have a deed." Davis will insist "upon the whole money in hand, according to the first contract." Davis will remain at Bath awhile longer. He gave "Major Davidson notice, that Miss Knox would be at Bath on the 2d of Jany. before I knew of Mr. Bradfords intention to accompany her to Wiscassett."

Writes that he understands a Republican coalition has prepared a petition to get him impeached. Explains that this coalition argues Copeland should be removed due to dishonest economic dealings, such as taking a bribe. Asks for Knox's help.
