Madison references Coxe's letter from March 7, 1820 and says he wrote to President Monroe about Coxe's son. Advises that he is in his 85th year, "the infirmities belonging to which are added inroads on my health, which among other effects have so crippled my fingers as to oblige me to use borrowed ones." Envelope has a free frank signed by Madison.

Copy of a letter from Tillier and Morris' response, dated February 11, 1799. Tillier complains of unjust treatment by "the Company of Peter Chassanis and others," particularly the protestation of bill issued for the payment of advances he made. He seeks to settle the problem promptly. Morris' response suggests arrangements for resolving the dispute. Tillier was then the agent for the Castorland colony, on land purchased by Chassanis in 1792.
