Knox informs White that Knox has received from Nathan Dane, John Sprague, and Enoch Titcomb "commissioners of the legislature to whom were referred the terms on which certain settlers within the Waldo Patent were to be quieted each in one hundred acres of land." White will be "entitled to a deed of your lot in New-Canaan" if White pays Knox the $85 with interest that he owes Knox.

Writes that she and her family live on a farm in the Waldo patent, and may have to move. Pleads that they be allowed to stay, and hopes Knox will "shew lenity to my unfortunate Husband whose natural diffidence will prevent his pleading his own Case." Adds that the only thing she can do is plead for the welfare of her family, and hopes that Knox, as well as his wife, will take mercy on them.

Diary covers a variety of subjects, listed by date, including a report of General William Smallwood's capture of a British brig in Wilmington Delaware, local observations (including Moravian customs), the amount of snowfall, merchant shops, dining with Clinton, etc. Includes travels through Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York. Prior to setting out on this journey, William had been staying with his brother Henry Knox at the Valley Forge encampment. Year inferred from content.
