References receiving a letter from Jones (GLC02437.05110), but does not note the date. Tells him it will be necessary to obtain a sea letter or passport signed by President George Washington. To get them the owner or owners must make an oath that the vessel and the cargo are the property of citizens of the United States. Also, the captain, officers, and most of the crew must be United States citizens. Upon completion of this he can help them get the proper paperwork.

Writes, "The Secretary of State has the honor of conveying to the Secretary of war the wish of the President, that instead of a meeting at his House at [text loss] o'clock on Monday next, the opinions upon the two points, [su]ggested in the note of this morning should be committed to writing and sent to the President by that time." From the Secretary of State (Edmund Randolph) on behalf of the President (George Washington). Addressor name is not given and letter is unsigned, possibly not written by the hand of Edmund Randolph.

Title: [Mr. Jones will apply to Mr. Frothingham and receive five hundred Arms & bayonets].

Instructions indicating that a Mr. [Thomas] Jones will collect ordnance and transport it to Williamsburg, Virginia. Closes by saying "This order will be executed instantly." The arms were for a Virginia regiment commanded by Major General Baron Steuben. The Continental Army was then preparing for the siege of Yorktown.

Also, he is to be given 75 rounds of shot and "25 Case fixed with Flannel." Wants the quartermaster to help arrange for them to be taken to Stony Point, where Johnson will take control of them.

Discusses the amount of provisions needed at Fort Schuyler for Jefferds party. Provides further instructions if the number of provisions at Fort Schuyler is insufficient.

Reports that [Daniel] Shays disbanded his party on Sunday & Monday last. King reports that the stageman he is traveling with saw the disbanded insurgents. The stageman said they seemed crestfallen; "some of them say they will go no more, others that they are not yet tired of the business." Includes other information provided by the stageman, such as the fact that Shays will stay at Worcester until he receives word from the Governor. As soon as I shall receive these certificates I shall have the pleasure of forwarding them to you, and from the favorable sentiments Mr Macombe expressed to me I conclude that they could not fail of serving fully your purposes."
