He also heard that Sey R. and Mac S. have brought their wives with them which he thinks is a bad idea. He is proud of Sylvia for standing up so well at the station when she said goodbye.

Moe saw a Cary Grant film. He mentions that he heard that Sam still thinks he can be reconciled with Mad. He also thanks Sylvia for the ten dollars but tells her he wished she hadn't sent it and if she has any extra money, that she should spend it on herself. He comments that he wishes that Sylvia's mother would relent where it concerns Mad., and that he doesn't think Alvin is really scared to go into the air.

Moe writes that they will probably be in Fort Lewis until August 1. He also mentions that if Sylvia wants to come visit, she should make her plans quickly, and know that she may not get back on time. He advises her to think things through and not just drop everything for him since she will not get paid for this vacation. He says she should ask her father for money. He also mentions that as time goes on, he is "strangely adjusted" to the idea of going overseas.

He is now C.Q (charge of quarters) and has to stay up all night so he can change the guard every two hours. Moe also mentions that his distinction is shown on his shirts now and appears more imposing than his old rank.
