Custer's loss was slight. Written in pencil, "One mile beyond Waynesboro Town."

Appendix, numbered 1-160, contains some of Ashmun's writings. Accompanied by a small maple leaf, which was previously pressed between pages 4 and 5 of appendix. Pages 4 and 5 are stained from the leaf.
