Expresses happiness in hearing of the British evacuation of South Carolina, which Knox attributes to Lincoln's attack on the British in the Battle of Stono Ferry, 20 June 1779, (there is evidence that the British had previous plans to evacuate the area). Informs Lincoln that some British troops are currently embarking from New York. Promises to send the swords to John Ruddock, Deputy Quartermaster of Stores at Fishkill, New York. Encloses a return of the arms (not included) he issued during the month of October, and an inventory of what remains in the store.

Written to William Knox at Amsterdam. Reports that he asked his uncle about the "chest, cask, & some loose furrs which you desire to be shipped for Amsterdam." Notes that some of the items were sold because they were damaged, and Knox may draw the proceeds from him "at sight: I could have remitted it but could not find a Bill for so small a sum." Reports that the chest will be shipped to Amsterdam at first opportunity, addressed to [John de] Neufville & Son at Knox's request. A note at the top of the page written in a different hand states, "From Jona William at Paris."

Receipt noting that Otis & Andrews [& Henley] "supplied sundry articles of clothing- inclusive of an inconsiderable quantity of arms, lead & c and sundries in the Quartermaster Generals Department- from 16 October 1778 to the 13 January 1779." Includes balance of account with the note, "The above charges are in paper money, and probably have been settled by the Scale of depr," likely referring to the scale of depreciation.

Hodgdon, Commissary [General] of Military Stores, writes from Succasunna Plains, certifying Gorton's appointment. Also signed by John Ruddock, who served as Deputy Quartermaster of Stores at Fishkill, New York. Includes a note on the bottom of recto, continued on verso. The note appears to be written by Samuel Shaw 10 July 1782 in New Windsor, New York. Shaw relates that Gorton served in the department at Fishkill until 10 March 1782, when he was discharged by General Benjamin Lincoln, Secretary at War. Shaw asserts that Gorton is entitled to his pay and depreciation of pay.

Includes two charts. The first indicates, "MArch 9th 1779 Congress resolved that the Infantry of these States for the next campaign, be composed of 80 battalions." Lists states and corresponding quotas and required troops for 1779. Lists numbers of men furnished, separated by Continental troops and militia. Includes total number of Continental troops and militia. Second chart contains an estimate of militia employed in addition to those cited in the first chart. They defeated Bragg, Johnson, and the Richmond army even though they were outnumbered five to one. They fell back here to fortify as the Confederates are planning to attack. He calls Stones River a skirmish in comparison with this battle. He has seen nine total days of hard battle in the war: six at Stones River, one at Liberty Gap, and two here in the Battle of Chickamauga.
