John writes with news of his arrival to New London, where he finds himself busy trying to transport "dearre and appells" from Hartford for the Sloop he and his brother-in-law Vetch had purchased. The ship, which had been "Creaned and Tealeered," is still a few details short of being finished. He then writes more seriously of his support for Livingston in his struggles to regain his expenditures - "I wish you safe against all designes that may hurt your interest and hope you have foreseene to guard Against the Envy of prejudiced and unreasonable persons." John writes home to discuss the problems that father wrote of to son, namely the difficulties in being reimbursed for the moneys outlayed for the Provincial Government. He says "I hope since god has been so merceyfull as for to Releve us of one Govr he will allso be Eabell to furnice us with a good on." He thanks his father for the "Acct of the apreyseall of ouwer goods at Boston" and writes that "when [Vetch returns] I will have an Exackt Acct of Everything." Docketed on verso.

Part of an itemized list detailing each of the outlays of Livingston made for the Province of New York, totalling £5335 19 shillings 2 1/4 pence. The outlays included "Incidents" and Provisions for the Indians of the Five Nations , and "for Makeing 400 wheel Barrows to fortify Albany & Shinnectady."

John writes home to send his wishes of health to all, especially his mother who had just recovered from a fever, and then begins to list his creditors, including Duncan Campbell and Messrs. Long and Van Sweten. He requests that his father send him a ledger and a journal to assist him in this venture, and asks that Robert Livingston inform Benjamin Ash that John could not afford to sell pork for less than £3 5 shillings per barrel.
