Title: Contemporary copy of Pendleton's brief autobiography

Originally written July 1793. Contemporary copy. Docketed on verso: "Concise history of Judge Pendleton's life written by himself. Copied." Six years before his death Pendleton outlined his biography, focusing mostly on his political career. In part: "I have often contemplated [my life]... as a rare and extraordinary instance and pathetically exclaimed 'Not unto me o Lord! Not unto me o Lord! but unto thy name be the praise..." It was first printed in the Richmond Enquirer 11 April 1818 which is the text for Mays, Letters and Papers of Edmund Pendleton, 2: 605-607.

Document requesting compensation from the British for the loss of their lands in the United States during the Revolutionary War. "That in consideration of the loyal attachment and exertions of the Six Nations in his Majesty's service during the American war, and the loss of their lands in consequence thereof...." Seeks confirmation of a land grant. Norton was an adopted Chief of the Iroquois Indian nation.

Title: Queries Respecting the Introduction, Progress and Abolition of Slavery in Mass.

Small broadside, disbound and signed by Belknap. Virginian St. George Tucker wrote a 1796 Dissertation on Slavery, proposing abolition. As part of his research, he queried colleagues with a list of eleven questions which are printed here. Jeremy Belknap, first Corresponding Secretary of the Massachusetts Historical Society, is believed to be responsible for this printing for distribution to local colleagues. Evans 28257, MHS 2738.

Written on light pink paper to his uncle, Henry Mackey at Lexington, Va. A plan and account of the battle of Horseshoe Bend, the last battle of the Creek War, after which the Creek leader Red Eagle surrendered to Jackson and signed a treaty abandoning their lands in Southern Georgia and Alabama. The drawing, which is well drawn and detailed, is entitled "A correct View of the Battle of the Horse-Shoe, March 27th 1814... when the Indians were totally destroyed by the unequaled bravery of the gallant sons of Tennessee, commanded by General Jackson."
