Gilbert apoligizes for falling into disfavor with his father, and explains that drastic circumstances have left him financially crippled and without a decent plot of land. He therefore proposes that his father give him some assistance, for his grandchildren's sake, and procure a piece of land and a job for him.

Bampfeild tells Livingston that he was honored to receive his assistance in a campaign for the Agency of New York, and promises to work dilligently in Livingston's service.

Robert Livingston agrees to help his son out of a situation brought on by Gilbert's "folly," and offers a farm with cattle, supplies to build equipment, and some more land that may be kept or sold in order to pay off some of Gilbert's large debt.

It also states that what can not be immediately disposed of by his Majesty be"Disposed of to the best Advantage and the Money raised thereby be Applyed to his Majesties Service."
