Pertains to the accounts of Mrs. Irvine, Mrs. Pringle, Mr. Campbell, and several others.

Discusses molasses and sugar sales. Instructs Leverich, a financial agent, to forward a letter to Mary Linton, who will return from Europe in March. Notes that Linton's funds are in Leverich's hands, and he should let her have them if she needs them. Writes, "Tell your abolition friends, that they need not trouble themselves on the subject of slavery God will put an end to it, in his own good time." Refers to sugar as the main product of slave labor, and predicts that a change in climate, not men's efforts, will end slavery. Includes a note written in pencil underneath docket.

Contains a postscript including financial information.

Discusses impending trouble between the North and South. Remarks that "the South presents a more united front" than during any other period. Comments extensively on states' rights as guaranteed by the Constitution. Discusses some politicians' aim to break down the Democratic Party, attesting that such men "have no more sympathy for the negro- & no more hatred for slavery, than I have..." Criticizes Northerners for interfering with the issue of slavery. Notes a decline in the price of sugar and molasses. Requests numerous quantities of champagne.

Contains a note on verso regarding the receipt of goods from New York.

Notes that he is asking Hobart's assistance because the matter involves taxes from his constituents.

Also discusses the election of Philip Barbour as Speaker of the House, explaining that he considers "it a triumph of the republicans over the Clintonians, who I have ever considered and viewed as federalists in disguise."

Wing, Deacon Brooks, and Thomas Stirson, but notes that the people of the area are generally in good health. On religion, he writes: "your Minister in Holy things makes a dash now & then (at what he calls Infidells) & then smooths all over with a plaister."
