Archer signs over to Stone the title for "one half of the land secured to me...by the annexed deed...by N.F. Smith." Witnessed by William Christy, Willis A Jarvis, and J.W. Moorly. The deed from Niles Smith appears on p. 2-3, and specifies the location of the land and indicates that Branch paid Smith $1,000 for it. Signed by Smith on p. 3 and witnessed by Henry Millard, E. Harris, and J.G. Welsh Meyer.

Title: [Texas land indenture]

Records the sale of land from Alexander McDonald to N. Hobbs and Caldwell. McDonald acquired the land from the late John Shirly, a soldier in the army of the Republic of Texas who was, like other soldiers involved in the Texas Revolution, given a land grant for his service. On the verso is a note indicating that Caldwell had Certificate No. 1664, attesting to W.M Berryhill's land grant of 960 acres for his service, and would have it delivered to Hobbs. Both sides witnessed by Peter Hansborough Bell, then an assistant adjutant general Texas army.

Partially printed document from the Consulate of the Republic of Texas in which Bryan, as "Consul for the Republic of Texas, for the port of New Orleans, State of Louisiana" certifies that William Richardson signed an annexed act of sale (not included). An handwritten note at the bottom indicates that this document was "presented for record" in J.H. Griffin's office in April, 1940. One black and white bust engraving of William J. Bryan included.

Partially printed document in which George Trembley of New Orleans, Louisiana, attests to selling 640 acres of Texas land to Edward T. Jackson for $325. The land had originally been granted to John Miller for service in the Texas Revolution and sold by him to Jackson on 12 December 1837. Signed by Trembley on the bottom and witnessed by Ant. Doriscourt and A. Austin. The certification of the sale by Bryan, acting as consul for the Republic of Texas, for the port of New Orleans, State of Louisiana, appears on the verso.

George was to "appear before the Committee of Investigation of the House of Representatives...in the case...wherein the Republic of Texas" was involved. Indicates that Jefferson obeyed the summons and was entitled to reimbursement for travel expenses. Signed by Bunton, a member of the Texas House of Representatives, as chairman of the Committee of Investigation. Also signed and approved by John M. Hansford, the Speaker of the House.

Indicates that he and others in the prison are in good health but have no idea when they will be released. Title: to Dr. William Bentley re: thanks for botanical specimens and illustrations

President Jefferson, writing shortly after his last Christmas in the White House, acknowledges receipt of the gift of some botanical speciments and drawings from the pen of Miss Crownenshield. Bentley (1759-1819) was a Unitarian Minister in Salem, Mass. and liberal Jeffersonian. Jefferson refers in the letter to members of the celebrated Crownenshield family of Salem. Jefferson's friend and Secretary of Navy, Jacob Crownenshield had died earlier in the year.
