Appears to be wearing a three-piece suit, with the vest unbuttoned and a black tie, mostly hidden by his beard. Mounted to a backerboard (9.9 x 22.3 cm). Board printed with a fading blue rectangle frame (8.8 x 7.6 cm) for the engraving.

Document is not signed but appears to be in Knox's handwriting. An affidavit by Henry Knox concerning a land warrant granted to him for his military services. Appears Knox delivered the warrant to Richard Platt and received a certificate for $1000 from Platt signed by Winthrop Sargent. Note at bottom of the document states "Sworn before Major Wheaton Justice Peace 22 Aug', 1801." Docket notes the affidavit was written from Thomaston, Maine.

Also mentions Thomas and Major [Benjamin?] Bracket will be assembling the people on Monday to explain the surveying and to try to obtain men to accompany the surveyors. Addressor name is not listed. Based on the content of the letter it is possible the addressor is Henry Knox, however, the letter is not in Henry Knox's handwriting. Docket notes the letter was written to George Ulmer.

Noted as a copy. A detailed indenture between Henry Knox, Benjamin Lincoln, Henry Jackson, and Thomas Lindall Winthrop. The indenture appears to be for two tracts of land in Hampden, Maine sold to Winthrop by Knox, Lincoln, and Jackson. Indenture includes the boundaries of the land, terms of the agreement, and the amounts to be paid.

Document is not signed but appears to be in Knox's handwriting. Discusses a large barn full of various items such as hay and rye. Also discusses a shed adjoining the barn and the total value of the goods. Letter is likely referring to Mr. Joseph Jones or Mr. Benjamin Bartlett's barn that was burnt down by the settlers in retaliation of Knox's surveying. See George Ulmer's letter to Henry Knox informing him about the fire (GLC02437.07605). Written on verso of a printed document: "Know all men by these presents..."

Relays a conversation between James [Cates] and William Whitney (who is one of the names listed as an insurgent). Appears Whitney was trying to find out the whereabouts of the surveyors from Cates who refused to tell him. On the last page there is also a list of names of the residents of Jackson, Maine. Docket suggests letter is written to Joseph Jones. Date was written at a later date in pen.

Noted as a copy. Reports on conversation he had with an old acquaintance regarding the settlers' opinions about Knox's lands being surveyed. His friend says the settlers are determined to butcher the Ulmer's, Houston, and Wilson with bayonets. Also reports the settlers had 60 to 70 men out on Sunday and the settlers expect to receive information the next time Ulmer's party goes. Says the settlers swore revenge against Wilson who they say abused the prisoners. Reports on several incidences where the insurgent have threaten other settlers at gun point for not joining them. Also includes two different lists of "evidences" (possibly witnesses) the first which is a list of names of men who were summoned to court and the second is a list of names of men who actually appeared at court.

Page two includes the receipt which is signed by James McCullison, Samuel Tilton (possibly a witness) and John Gleason as a witness. Appears to be a receipt for a cancelled bond for land in Hancock Country, Maine. Receipt shows James McCullison paid his note in full to Henry Knox for $545 plus interest for 100 acres owned by Knox.

A letter from Henry Knox to the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts regarding Joseph Jones' petition. Knox appears to be seeking help from the government for Joseph Jones and Benjamin Bartlett whose barns and goods were burnt down by the insurgents in Maine. Letter is possibly a draft.

Also describes other hostile acts the settlers committed. A note at the bottom of the letter states the above mentioned names made an oath to the truth.
