He also describes the two battles in which he fought: the Seven Days Battles [June 25-July 1, 1862] and the Second Battle of Bull run [August 1862]. The fight at Malvern Hill on the seventh day of the Seven Days Battles [July 1, 1862] clearly affected Dodge. He writes, "the field was all covered with dead…that night the wounded cride for help, but we could not help them."
