Reports that Colonel Lythe's light infantry advanced to take possession of the pass at the lower bridge and that he hopes to join him there soon. Said party that was sent after the field piece he mentioned in his previous letter to Lincoln returned in the evening. Says General Elbert came upon a wagon that was overset and that they found a "cohorn" (a small mortar) and several chests, but left them behind because it was not convenient to bring them…

Written by Major General Paterson to certify that Ira Sayman has furnished 140 rations. This was enough for ten days for one lieutenant and 12 men who were guarding prisoners in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Note on verso, signed by Caleb Hick, says the rations were received.

Commodore Preble recommends Charles Morris as a person to transmit secret government dispatches should they be needed while European powers were at war. Hopes Secretary of the Navy Smith will recommend Morris to President James Madison. Morris had served under Preble on the frigate Constitution and continued to serve on the Constitution during the War of 1812.

Documents the receipt from Major General Henry Dearborn of $10,000 for the defense of the Niagara frontier. Lewis was a former governor of New York who served as the quartermaster general of the United States army and also as a major general on the Niagara frontier during the War of 1812.

Title: [Sentence of court martial on Captain Eliphalet Thorp]

Thorp was tried for "abusing and plundering Margaret Weyman" and found not guilty of abuse but guilty of theft. The theft was made because Thorp had property stolen from him by Margaret's husband, who was "a vile Tory." Thorp was admonished. General Wooster approved the sentence in a short, signed note at the bottom.

Indicates that Dale was near "the theatre of the European War," referring to the first Barbary War, for which Truxtun declined a command. In a post script, indicates that he hopes Dale will stay in the Mediterranean for a year, "which will work down some of your fat of which you have too much."
