References Harris's communication of 9 August. Sends along U.S. stamps he just received. Commodore Lowry was born 14 July 1826, at La Guayrs, Venezuela, the son of Robert K. Lowry of Maryland, United States Consul. He was appointed a Midshipman on 21 January 1840. Attached to the Hcms Squadron during the Mexican War, he took part in operations against Tampico, Tuspan, Vera Cruz, Tobasco, Seven Palms and Alvarado. At the outbreak of the Civil War he was part of the relief expeditions at Fort Sumpter and took part in operations of the Potomac Flotilla. The Hatteres Expedition was undertaken…

Addressee inferred from content. Informs Henry about the health of his children, particularly a daughter who had been ill but is now healthy (see GLC02437.03585), as are Henry's other children. Imagines that Henry's stay at the [Constitutional] convention may be shorter than expected, due to the "Strong parties which exist in Philadelphia, and [which have] pervaded all circles in which you may be." Confirms that he well send subsequent letters to Knox at his lodgings at Samuel Ogden's home.

Written to the Massacusetts Legislature defending Henry Knox's claims to the Waldo patent against a petition sent to the legislature by many residents of the patent. Argues against the claims made in the petition, and states that the land rightfully belongs to Knox. Part of the sixth page is on a separate sheet, that was once attached.
