Elmore, Confederate Treasurer, discusses the activities of G. W. Butler, a late Teller in the Treasury. Informs Poindexter, a Lieutenant and Enlistment Officer, that Treasury clerks have had little time to work on Butler's accounts. States that several million Treasury notes related to these accounts are held in Columbia, South Carolina, and have been shipped to Richmond based on the request of George Alfred Trenholm, Confederate Secretary of the Treasury. States that due to the busy condition of the Treasury, he can offer no estimate regarding the settlement of Butler's accounts.…
