Also notifies him of a proposed meeting of several towns to consider responses to the Tea Act. A note by Winship on the verso acknowledges his compliance. Bordman was the town clerk of Middlesex. Winship was the constable of Cambridge, Massachusetts. Written just before the Boston Tea Party

Title taken from inscription on recto. Huge signal tower built by General Benjamin F. Butler with a signalmen standing on various levels and several men posed in front of it. Modern graphite inscription on mount suggests the photo was taken by J. Reekie in 1862 ca., although a similar picture taken from different angle appears in the Photographic History of the Civil War, Vol. 2, p. 439, states the photograph was taken in June 1864.

Taken by Gutekunst. A civilian man wearing an unusually patterned, light colored frock coat is standing fourth from the left of the lone woman. This same man can be seen in GLC 511.01.0228 standing left of the tree immediately in front of the large tent in the right foreground. Several soldiers are joined by a group of medical sewards, civilian nurses and members from one of the civilian relief organizations [i.e., the Christian Commission] are standing next to the tents. The hospital was located on the [Jacob] Schwartz farm between July 5-23 1863. See GLC 5111.01.0228

By T.R. Holland [Philadelphia?]. Based on an earlier [younger] photograph: "From a Portrait in possession of Mrs. Anderson." Major Robert Anderson was in command of Fort Sumter when it was fired upon on April 12, 1861, setting off the Civil War. He would surrender the next day, Anderson was forced to surreder but became a hero to the North.
