Captain Oviat's "Diary" with printed titlepage, and short entries concerning drilling, telegrams received, etc. The entries appear to have been copied, as noted on the titlepage "Edited by Joseph Fitzgerald, 1st Lt. Co. 9, USC Artillery (heavy)." Topics include Lincoln's assassination, daily life, etc. Written in a Clayton's quarto diary, with many blank pages in the latter half of 1865.

A long, detailed letter from Bibb, the noted runaway slave and conductor on the Underground Railroad, telling Calkins of Wilbraham, Mass., how his money was spent in aiding runaway slaves who had traveled on the Underground Railroad, particularly those who had just arrived in Canada. Complete set of 26 issues and 7 supplements containing news and other related articles concerning Southern life and culture. The Record was published for six months (the latter half of 1863) and was published by West and Johnson. The masthead was engraved by Julius Baumgarten and depicts the seal of the Confederacy between two Confederate flags. Topics include battle reports, casualties, laws, political news, poems, short stories, etc. There is even a "Black List" of southern-born soldiers who betrayed their home to serve in the federal army.

Title: Diary of Sergeant in Company E, 11th New York Cavalry

A member of the cavalry unit known as "Scott's nine hundred." Millet kept as a record for his family in case he did not survive. It details his activities in Virginia and Maryland before, during and after the Gettysburg campaign. It contains a detailed account of the evacuation of Harpers Ferry and the pursuit of J.E.B. Stuart's cavalry. There are also occasional descriptions of encounters with civilians, North and South. Begins June 1863. Rebound in paper, boxed with original cover.
