The power of attorney had been granted by Burges Ball and John Payne, and their wives, and pertained to the administration of land in Virginia. Also contains a copy of the identity and marriage certification made by James Gordon, the justice of the peace for Lancaster County, Virginia, as well as James Ball, Dale Carter, and Richard Mitchell. A note on the verso by Thomas Griffin indicates that the certification was recorded in a court in Lancaster County on 15 September 1774.
