California scenes include a quicksilver mine, California capital Monterey, the Sacramento River, and a "Ranchero Feat" (tying a bear). Sketches are by Revere and lithographed by William Endicott & Co. Inscription from the editor, Joseph N. Balestier, reads "Mrs. Louisa C. Butler with the warmest regards of Caroline Balestier's Husband, Feb. 1849. 'Lord! keep our memory green.'" Includes folded map of San Francisco Harbor.
