According to Duane, "I say My Uncle Joined the presbeterean party; because whetehr he meant to do it or not, his Conduct had that Colour - of Consequence he was opposed in that Character." Peter Robert informs his father that "We have a Society Established here of Members from the Different Dissenting Congregations in the City . . . in order to inform the Different Congregations in the Province of every thing that is carryed on here in which their Religious or Civil Liberty are in any danger of Suffering." He asks that Robert, Jr. keep the matter confidential "for fear it may gitt into bad hands and I may be charged with a Breach of trust by my Constituants," and specifically states that it should be kept from James Duane.

Peter Robert states that there has been great turmoil in the City since some British soldiers attempted to cut down the liberty pole. A number of skirmishes between citizens and soldiers resulted, with some blood shed, and Peter Robert notes that men are no longer safe in their own houses. He also mentions a proposed bill that would prevent the Manor from voting for County members.
