Remarks that he hopes the Adjutant "will report the truth for we have done nothing to put down the rebellion since we came out here but guard oficers and march our selfs to death for the division hasent seen nor smelt a battle since they been out for the oficers dont want to do eny thing like fighting if they can help it for they are geting big pay and are waited on like gentlemen and that they cant have when they get home..." Writes that he would have written to General Benjamin Lincoln earlier to discuss what to do with the cannon, but thought he would be leaving soon from Elizabeth Town and could explain better in person; he did not expect such a long delay. Also comments on the upcoming campaign and the ideal size and placement of artillery weapons, and refers to Colonel John Crane.
