A print of a photograph of soldiers standing in two lines (close formation) facing at the Left Oblique to the camera. Two officers stand in front of their men, one for each line. A bugler wearing a heavily trimmed musicians jacket stands on the right of the first line. The soldeirs wear frock coats worn by Western Union units. The 26th was formed from the surplus companies originally organized for the 25th Mich. Regiment. After quickly raising two additional companies, the regiment was completed on December 12th, 1862.
