The first section, apparently in Knox's hand, outlines the lines of ownership and inheritance related to Mrs. Hannah Flucker's estate: declares that upon the death of Mrs. Hannah Flucker (the mother of Lucy Knox), half of the estate went to the Captain Thomas Flucker (Lucy's brother) and his heirs, one quarter went to Mrs. Hannah Urquhart Harwood (Lucy's sister) and her heirs, and one quarter went to Lucy. Asks Knox if he will help his friend Stephen Chase, a law student, who is publishing an edition of "Sullivan's Lectures on the Feudal Law." Wait wonders if he could help Chase in "procuring a few great names," such as President [John] Adams and Governor [Caleb] Strong, in addition to Knox himself (perhaps for interviews for the book). Adds that Wait and a Mr. Hopkins are publishing the book with Chase, and if it is successful, there may be more books to be published, and Wait will be able to overcome financial hardship.

Also discusses the strength of the "jacobins" of Thomaston and the weakness of the Federalists there.

Mentions crop yields will be lower this year due to damage sustained in the January thaw. Letter continues on 2 April 1885, and is unsigned and incomplete. However, based on handwriting similarity, place of writing, and content, the author may be R. H. Silfer, Maitland's correspondent in GLC03523.10.199.
