Speech by Maghingwee Keeshuch [Daniel Brodhead] to the Huron Indians demanding that they cease attacks against American settlers and troops, and that they aid in the Revolution against the British, "casting off that bad father the King of Britain over the great lake." Alternately conciliatory and threatening, he warns them of the potential consequences should they refuse to obey: "though I love peace and could wish to save the lives of my country men of this island I am not afraid of war."

Maine refused to surrender Philbrook and Kilbron as fugitives from justice. Resolves that states should be required to surrender fugitives from justice from other states according to the U.S. Constitution.

Continues to wait for word on discharge, though Pennsylvania troops must wait until the Eastern troops are discharged. They must then meet at Pittsburgh for final payment. Four soldiers were punished for "cowardice" in front of the brigade. Comments on his opinion of phrenology. While the regiment has not had a chaplain, a Christian sermon was preached through the Christian Commission.

Says Secretary of the Navy Southard is about to appoint a lieutenant to superintend the naval school just established on board the frigate "Guerriere" at Norfolk, Virginia. State the pay will be equal to that of a Lieutenant Commander. Informs Mayo he will be appointed if he desires the post. Signed note on verso by Mayo says "It was kind in the old Comr. to remember me - but I declined the offer..." Says Rodgers' good opinion of him is quite a compliment.
