Exact lithographic copy of the original manuscript ordinance with reproduced signatures of those who voted for the act. Printed by Evans and Cogswell, by act of the South Carolina assembly. "...An ordinance to dissolve the Union between the State of South Carolina and other states united with her under the compact entitles 'The Constitution of the United States of America...' " Dated 1860, but printed 1861. The copy was so exact as to have fooled many Union soldiers four years later during Sherman's march through South Carolina. Also contains two articles relating to labor. Signed well before any formal French agreement (or the Hortalez & Cie arrangement) with Congress. Also signed by Chaussade. Writes "on your arrival at Memphis seize all transports coming into port for the use of the Army here, excerpt such as are absolutely necessary for carrying Government supplies from above. When it becomes practicable to release any boats again give those boats the preference that have been constantly in Govt. employ... boats will be required here to transport a large army and nearly all at one time."

Title page signed by three cadets who later became distinguished Civil War generals, two of them Confederates: J.E.B. Stuart, John B. Chambliss, and William B. Hazen. Chambliss signstwice, W. B. Hazen once, and Stuart once, with the rare form of his name, "James E. B. Stuart, Va." Printed names of these men are found in the pamphlet (Stuart had 49 demerits for the entire year). With doodles, sketched portraits and annotations throughout. Both Chambliss and Stuart were born in Virginia in 1833, served in the Confederate army together during much of the war, both died in combat in 1864.W. B.…

Grant writes to Lieutenant Colonel Bingham, Chief Quartermaster of the depot at Nashville, Tennessee: "l have relieved Mr. Livermore of his functions as Negro Commissioner and taken from him the control of the Steamer [Potter]. It seems one boat has been kept for the use of the negro regiments and another for the Commissioners. One it seems to me can do the business for all the contrabands both soldiers and others." Discusses transporting rations and re-directing the use of the boats.

Written by Whipple as a Continental Congressman from New Hampshire to Langdon as a Continental Congressman from New Hampshire (he was to leave that body in June 1776). Whipple was also a colonel of militia and later signed the Declaration of Independence. References Langdon's letter from April 29, 1776. Says there was "a little Brush" with the men of war "Roebuch" and "Liverpool." Says the ships came up as far as Wilmington, Delaware and stole cattle from the Jersey shore.
