Bauman, in charge of the artillery at West Point, complains of "a most cingular circumstance that is agitated against the honor of my command and disparagement of the corps of Artillery." Gives numerous reasons for his disagreement with Lieutenant Colonel William Hull (commandant of West Point). Hull's orders placed artillery on regular garrison duty under direction of the adjutant. Bauman refused to comply and was suspended at his own request. The Mohawk Sachims explain that they were on their way to make peace with the Eastern Indians, but stopped their journey due to the breaking of war and other dangers. They also remind the Governor of New York of the Earl of Bellomont's promise to build a fort in their country, and ask that steps be taken to fortify their land.

Title: "Propositions Made to the Schakook Indians Meet at Shinnechtady on . . .

. . . there Journey and Conveyed By severall Mohogs to settle In the Mohogs Countrey" The proposition asks the Skachtkook Indians why they are travelling to to the Mohawk Country, and advises them to return to where they came from. In their answer, the Indians state that they dwelt there long before the arrival of the British, and have every right to move where they please. The men of Albany reply that they were unaware that the Skachtkook Indians used to live there, but advise them to return to their country until the Governor arrives.

Item 1: 1p. + docket. Schuyler enclosed a letter from the interpreter at Onondaga, and directs Cornbury's attention to the gifts presented to the Indians by Canada. He also inquires about the payment of the expenses accrued on his journey to Onondaga. Item 2: letter from Laurence Claese to the Gentlemen of Albany; 20 May 1704; Onondaga, [N.Y.],;1p. Claese states that the Indians are on their guard against the Indians of Canada, and also that he has forwarded some letters to Peter Schuyler from an English minister from Deerfield.

Title: Proposition to the Commissioners of Albany with an answer

The Sachems report that they are resolved not to let a priest or French man live among them, and state that they are returning to their castles for security. They also complain of the lack of security offered by the English, and request more arms and ammunition. In their answer, the Commissioners thank the Sachems for their affirmation of the covenant chain, and agree with their mistrust of the French. They also agree to supply the Indians with the best powder and ammunition so that they may avenge the death of 5 Indians.

. . . come from Tiogsagrondie" The Indians tell Corlaer that they have come to Albany to trade, and that they expect to be well received and welcomed into a partnership. In their answer, the Indians are thanked for coming to trade, but are told that goods are scarce and that the French may try to harm them out of jealousy. Includes a final note dated 21 June 1704; explains that the Indians of Tiogsagrondie request the aid of the 5 Nations in a war with the far Nations.
