Promises that if there is a trial and he does not attend, he will send money to help Whitney.

Excerpt:  "The cholera has been more fatal since I wrote to you, the reported deaths on Thursday and Friday being each day a hundred or over. Saturday there was some abatement there not being over fifty - and yesterday about forty. But there is no reason to believe that a decided improvement has taken place……

The collection consists of thirty-four letters written by Edward K. Ward to his sister Elmira Ward. Edward enlisted in Company A of the 4th Tennessee as a Second Lieutenant. He writes of his experiences at Murfreesboro, Shiloh, Nashville, Chattanooga, Seminary Ridge, and Atlanta, where he was killed. The collection is accompanied by an oil painting of Ward and a collection of carte-de-visites of Ward family members and acquaintances. The Edward H. Hall Papers consist predominantly of Hall's correspondence to his mother, father, and sister during his service as a private in the 1st Maryland Cavalry, C.S.A. Hall was captured and held at Point Lookout, Md., from 1864-1865; most of the correspondence held here dates from his years of internment as a POW.
