On verso is a note dated 25 July 1744 signed by Samuel Crandall stating that he has arrested Ben Garrit and brought him before Isaac Huntington, Justice of the Peace for New London County, Connecticut.

Confederate President Davis's statement, issued 21 April 1863, reports "Whether the liability of the Government shall be extended to such cases is a question to be determined, not by the Executive, but by Congress." Includes communications from various Confederate governmental officials discussing the necessity of impressment and governmental liability for escaped slaves. The earliest statement is dated 14 February 1863. This printing includes no publisher information and was possibly previously bound within a larger volume.

Pillow on 18 February 1862, Brigadier General John B. Floyd on 27 February 1862, Colonel G.C. Wharton on 22 February 1862, and Commander John McClausland on 23 February 1862. Pillow's report is the most substantial.
