Hill had taken a trip to Bath and in his absence made arrangements for all mail and parcels he received to be kept for him at a shop in the area. A printed and autograph document from the State of North Carolina to the Sheriff of Chatham ordering that the sheriff set a sale of 4 enslaved men. The sale is to repay a debt owed to Murdock McKenzie & Co. by William Thompson. The amount to be raised is 23 pounds 7 shillings, as well as interest and a further sum of 2 dollars and 2 half cents to pay for the cost of the suit. The money should be kept by the sheriff for Murdock McKenzie & Co. until the next meeting of the court.

A mandate of payment for M. Boutin for the work of the enslaved person Sam. Sam worked on the public chain gang for twenty one days at the rate of twenty five cents a day. The payment from the city to M. Boutin is for "Five Piastres Twenty-Five Cents." The document is written in French, but is accompanied by a translation.

A letter from William J. Myers to Mary Rose Myers dated September 10, 1942. William reports that he just arrived at the base to start gunnery school in the next few days. He writes that the school lasts five weeks. The first two weeks is for learning the functions of the guns while the rest is on field conditions and actually using the guns. The last week of school is shooting from the actual plane. You shoot at a sleeve of fabric that is pulled by another plane. William also lets her know where he is in Texas, and that it's so small it might not be on a map. He signs the letter "Tex."

A letter from William J. Myers to Mary Rose Myers dated September 16, 1942. William is at gunnery school learning how the guns work and how to fire them. He finds it very tough, and outlines their schedule for the next five weeks. He is afraid he won't be able to learn it all and will fail, but he likes the work anyway. William also warns Mary Rose that he might not be able to write again in the next few weeks because of how busy the schedule is and asks her to apologize to everyone for him.
