Writes, "The conduct of France in establishing provincial assemblies, is seized with great eagerness by the advocates for the state systems [...] But they do not bring into view the strong cement of the royal authority, supported by two hundred thousand soldiers - The state systems, are the accursed thing which will prevent our being a national character." Declares his support of a strong, centralized government.

Understands that his business in Boston, settling with creditors, may extend until the end of the month (it is possible Henry was settling the matter of Henry Jackson's unauthorized sale of 10,000 dollars of Knox's notes). Remarks that her sister sent her a Queensware china set.

" Addressed the letter to "General George Knox," instead of Henry.

Says he was acquainted with William Knox in Dublin. Tells Henry he was for many years a merchant with extensive trade. Has since had troubles in business and left his wife and daughter behind in Ireland to make another fortune in Jamaica. Arrived on the island in December 1791 with letters of recommendation from Dublin and landed a clerks position with a salary of 160 pounds per annum. Wants to be able to return to his family or bring them to Jamaica and asks Knox for employment that is not degrading. Relates his lineage. See GLC02437.05889 for a copy of the letter.

Reports that "an express arrived here yesterday for Dr. Stevens to attend Colo. Hamilton supposed in the yellow fever." Tells him to remember his promise not to return to Philadelphia.
