She was pregnant and died of a fever not long after giving birth to a son that lived only a short time. Provides a long and melancholy account of the period surrounding her death. Describes his feelings over his loss and worries over how "mama in her advanced age" will bear the pain. The relation to Bryant was through his second-wife, Hannah Mason. Written from Presque Isle, which is now Erie, Pennsylvania.

Captain Buell writes to Major Trescott of the 2nd U.S. Infantry about Trescott sending troops to join Buell, who was on his way to Middletown, Connecticut: "I hope you have at Springfield some good non Commissioned officers, as I shall have some rough fellows to go with me as Could have bin Inlisted perhaps this side of the other World." Also discusses an order for money. Trescott resigned his commission later that year and went on to found Trescott, Maine. Damaged where the seal has been removed causing minor text loss.
