Author is Captain Albert A. Day of Company K, 20th Michigan Infantry, 9th Corps. The map notes rail roads, General Ulysses S. Grant's supply train, Jerusalem Plank Road, Deep Bottom, Jones's Neck, Malvern Hill, Chickahominy River, the fortifications of Richmond and Petersburg, Union lines surrounding Petersburg, the Weldon Rail Road, Reams Station, Confederate works surrounding Petersburg, and the Appomattox and James Rivers, among other features. Possibly drawn in Virginia.

Partially printed document created at Vicksburg, indicating that Hodges, "a Prisoner of War…in virtue of the capitulation of the City of Vicksburg," vows not to take up arms against the United States. Also signed by Captain Jonathan O. [Dun?] of Illinois Volunteers as paroling officer. Docketed by M. F. Berry, Major and Assistant Adjutant General, Captain [T. C. McMakin?], and E. [R.?] Early. Berry's docket grants Hodges furlough.

... (title continues) the cancellation of the same, and the issuance of a Mortuary Warrant to pay the funeral expenses of the deceased pensioner, etc., and declaring an emergency. Enacted by the Texas State Legislature. Authorized by J. C. Jones, Commissioner of Pensions for Texas. Indicates that this act takes effect 1 April 1917.

Writes "This fund is also exhausted, but as the Christmas holidays are nearing and I am desirous of assisting you in getting the cash on your hands in time to add a little sunshine to your Christmas cheer, I have asked that an additional amount be invested in your December warrants."

Grant, eldest son of Ulysses S. Grant, writes to Llewellyn, a lawyer. Assures Llewelyn of the authenticity of a U.S. Grant letter (refer to GLC04907.02). Of the order, Frederick writes "In this order is directed one of the movements, which brought about the capture of Petersburg, Va, in 1865, referred to in Chapter LXIV p.p. 436-453. Voll II, Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant." Appreciates Llewellyn's decision to place the letter in the care of an unspecified historical society. Subjects include the advancing of General Price, Proclamation by Gov. Brown urging Georgians to fight, Affairs in Pensacola. This issue includes a story on a prisoner of war, Major Vodges, taken at the battle of Santa Rosa Island, and the account of a young soldier's last hour, dying from typhoid fever. Mrs. General Hansell of Marietta, known for her excellent housewifery, submits recipes for tallow candles and corning beef or pork. Papers are extremely frayed and the ink is fading.

The Ladies Relief Society of Eatonton and Putnam County publish a statistical account of all their recent work, namely coats, shirts, pants, and socks made and sent to various locations. News from Europe is also included. Document has several watermarks and the ink is fading.
