Called "Special Orders No. 121." Honorably discharges Sarsons so he could "accept a commission then tendered to him by the Governor of New Hampshire." Issued "By Command of Brevet Major General Ruger." Partially printed document from the Headquarters of the Department of North Carolina, with two stamps from the auditors office, one from the treasury department, and some later notes and underlining in pink ink. Cilley was the assistant adjutant general.

Organizes the regiment, listing the officers, their positions and companies, and the arrangement of the regiment. Authorized by the command of Colonel Whipple and witnessed by Adjutant Henry W. Fuller. Eleazer L. Sarsons, the owner of the document, was listed as 3rd Sergeant in Company C. Made at Camp Sullivan.

Written to his son.

Confusion over whether Jackson recieved funds from the Quarter Master General in excess of what he was owed. Jackson believes he was due all funds he recieved, and that if he has recieved too much, it must be due to a misunderstanding. "It has allways been my desire, never to receive any money on account of the U States, unless where I was well warranted by cause, and such as others of equal grade in the army had been in the habit of receiving." Written to Calhoun, who would later become Jackson's Vice President and political adversary, as Secretary of War.

Says if she tries to take it, the money will be returned to Mr. Gardiner, and assures her the money will be safe. "I take the liberty Madam, to advise you not to speak in improper or offensive terms of Mr. Plant or any of your neighbours - remember you once lost an estate by the unguarded use of your tongue."

Grant suggest that if George Thomas will not attack Nashville, he may have to be replaced in command by John Schoefield. "You probably saw my order to Thomas to attack: If he does not do it promptly I want to recommend superceeding him by Schofield." Grant also suggests a separate promotion for Frederick Steele. Grant had been urging Thomas to attack Nashville for some time, and on December 6th had finally sent a direct order for Thomas to attack. On December 9th Thomas had still not moved, and Grant ordered him removed from command. However, the order is suspended by Grant's superiors…
