Outside the buildings are large piles of lumber and planks. The nearer building between these piles appears to be the mill itself, and individual strips of wood are scattered around it. Beside the shed appears to be a pile of limbers. Mountains are visible on the far side of the river. A label on the reverse notes that the image is from the Robert Schoelkopf Gallery. The label also identifies George N. Barnard as the photographer.

A group of barracks-like buildings is visible in the distance, probably the same group as in the upper image, but taken from a different angle.
