Knox received Jackson's letter via Benjamin Lincoln and was happy to have news of his son. Knox says the family is very upset that his daughter seems to have consumption. He proclaims, "My God the misery of this world!"

Knox has received Jackson's two letters of May 19. Knox tells Jackson he is sending cargoes of [bricks] to Boston for Mrs. Swan. Talks about his debt to Mr. Gorham.

Discusses land deals and legal agreements. Says he does not believe Mr. [Thomas?] Winthrop can be absolved from the agreement. Quotes part of the clause on the agreement that states the lands will be conveyed to Winthrop once they are located and appraised. Further discusses in great detail Mr. Winthrop's legal obligations concerning the land. Also discusses the current surveys being conducted and stresses that they must continue regardless of troubles that may arise.

Title: to Benjamin Lincoln and Henry Jackson

Letter is not signed but appears to be Knox's handwriting. Discusses the ongoing conflict among the settlers and Knox's surveyors. Informs the gentlemen he sent his surveyors out armed enough to defend themselves against any attacks from the settlers. Also says he has sent three gentlemen to assemble the people at different settlements on the Plymouth Company land that borders Knox's land. Unsigned, and likely incomplete, but the handwriting suggests the author is Henry Knox. Writes that he is grateful to Jackson and Lincoln and wants to relieve them of their endorsements of his notes. Discusses financial arrangements with Mr. [Christopher] Gore and Mr. [Benjamin] Carpenter. Touches on a variety of other financial matters and includes calculations as well.

Signed by W. Jackson, possibly Major William Jackson. Writes on a subject that is of great importance to him and his family, trusting in Knox's candor and kindness. Mentions when Jackson traveled to New York to negotiate a transfer of property from Mr. [William] Duer to Knox and Mr. [William] Bingham. As payment for his services, Jackson was to receive a deed for profits from a portion of the land. Asks now to receive this deed.

Marked "copy." Relates that General [Rufus] Putnam told him about a plan developed by the Massachusetts legislature's Committee of Eastern Lands regarding the Waldo patent. In this plan, a quantity of disputed territory would be added at the "head" of the patent; apparently, the Plymouth Company also has a claim on this land. Discusses the implications of this plan.

Requests Jameson notifies the inhabitants of "Medumcook" [Meduncook] that there will be a meeting at Jameson's house on the 20th for any who have business with the heirs of Brigadier Waldo or have taken up lands in the neighborhood. Written from "Medumcook" which is possibly present day Cushing, Maine.

Discusses men who cannot be dismissed [likely from the army] until Knox's arrival at West Point, New York. Also mentions Jackson can depend on something from his application (possibly referring to Jackson's request for a Brigadier General's salary), however, he likely will not be able to continue in the service.
