A seal was torn from this document, causing text loss.

Informs Elizabeth that women he met at a Ball in Valparaiso, Chile perceive Americans as "the people who struck the first blow for Liberty in the New World." States that Captain Charles Wilkes, leader of the Peacock and other vessels on the expedition, wrote for his warrant. Requests Elizabeth to give his love to family and friends in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Norfolk, Virginia.

In a description of the events of his life, discusses his imprisonment in Canada. After his imprisonment, he was shot by John Garland, an officer in the Royal Navy, for refusing to fight against the United States in the 10 September 1813 Battle of Lake Erie. Refers to the battle as "Perry's Battle," after Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry. Claims that he was the son of Revolutionary War soldier Simon Crosby. States that he resides in Adams County, Wisconsin. This document is accompanied by a newspaper clipping containing Crosby's obituary. Date estimated based on references within the note.
