Writes from Camp Pierpont telling him that Christmas and New Year's "passed off pleasently and on New Years day we had a grand Oyster Dinner." Provides detail about picketing, particularly noting the harsh and cold weather. Relays military information. "I heard that part of Rush's Calvary are now on this side of the river..." Also discusses military tactics, "Napoleon plan was never to attack an enemy that was a killing itself. And thats the way with General [George] B. McClellan for the longer we lay here the longer the Rebels are suffering for want of proper provision clothing Blankets etc…
