Responds to a previous letter from Leval (GLC02437.05741) and discusses their land deals. Says he completely agrees with her on the advantages they would gain from a French settlement in Maine. Although she is aware of the "awkward situation" concerning the Maine lands, assures her the situation is now looking better. A "solid company" with adequate resources has now taken responsibility of the land. Notes [William] Bingham is the head of the company and [William] Duer has relinquished his rights. Believes she will be satisfied with Bingham's performance as an agent.

Says Knox is far from doing her justice. Tells him he "must be convinced how much I have sacrificed, to come to such an amical settlement." Hopes the paperwork will not slow the settlement down. Says "all what I ask is, to be able to give Surety to my acquirors, this is what I take to heart, I rather would risk my life, than to engage them in an operation which would be ruinous to them."
