Reports that Captain Elsworth and two other men were recently killed "by the Indiands [sic] they took three prisoners also amongst the latter is one of my Compy..." "Public service" noted on address leaf.

Refers to an order for thread and paper (possibly used in musket cartridges) requested by Moodie. Adds that Mr. [Brewster] will inform him "of the recruits so long expected from Capt. Mathias." Written at Phillipsburg (present-day Sleepy Hollow, New York).

Says that "Immediately on receipt of this letter Gen Knox desires you to set out in order to meet him at this place." Tells him to provide himself with clothes for a command of considerable length of time. Says Knox is very anxious for his arrival, which should be before sunset tonight. GLC02437.01145 is Bauman's response to this letter.
