America had been flooded with British imports after the Revolution, but Congress was not permitted to enact protective tariffs. Instead, various states enacted tariffs.

Lists the estimated costs of constructing the first steam-powered U.S. naval vessel. Fulton estimates that $25,000 will be required for three months, with the amount decreasing after that. Costs include materials, wages, and a monthly payment to the shipbuilders, "the Messrs. Browns." Accompanied by scribal document giving specifications for "U.S.S. Fulton the First." Former secretary of war Major General Henry Dearborn (1751-1829) served as commander of New York's defenses during the War of 1812. Also informs Huntington that his wife, Anne Huntington, is sick. Abbott died later that year. This was a retained copy of the letter docketed by Samuel Huntington.

Castera: "Pour saver sou pays du pouvoir arbitraire, / Washington combattit en guerrier valeureux...." Presumably the Houdon piece is the 1785 bust of Washington. It depicts Washington in profile with long hair and the words "G. Washington" on left inside a coin-shape.
