Blanckley), France (Dubois as Chargee for Napoleon), Spain (Alonso Intur[?], Sweden (A. M. Fraissinitt [?]), Denmark (Georg Frederik Ulrich) and Holland ([illegible]).

Fulton Writes to Stanhope to tell him about how well received his own ideas about canals have been in France, and to convince Stanhope that the British need to adopt his plans as well. Claims that his "small system of canals" will make fortunes for countries that use them, prove vital to trade, and simplify taxation and systems of government. Says he has enclosed two long letters explaining his new system of canals (GLC04661.02 and GLC04661.03). Asks Stanhope to see that the letters are published, so that his ideas can become popular in England.

Two stray items are at the end of the inventory: an undated letter to his mother and a letter to Minnie Walbridge, his sister (#126). Describes exploration of the grant in the eastern half of the state. Discusses the fertility of the land, its potential for irrigation (farming) or herding. Mentions (see p. 13) finding a basin with fossils, once part of an inland sea. The expedition began near Roswell, but had to repeatedly move north in an attempt to cross the Pecos River. The grant (apparently) included parts of modern-day Guadalupe, Debaca, Chaves and possibly Eddy Counties, almost entirely on the west side of the Pecos River.

Perez writes to the mayor of Santa Clara to announce the victory of Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna over the rebels at Zacatecas in Mexico. Hopes he will send forth congratulations for this glorious event. Perez became Governor of New Mexico in 1836 and was decapitated in 1837 for trying to impose taxes from Santa Anna. This document is a record of lands given to Alexander Balmain for three years of military service. It is signed by John Adams as President and countersigned by Secretary of State Timothy Pickering. A grant made in accordance with a 1790 act called "An Act to enable the Officers and Soldiers of the Virginia Line on Continental Establishment to obtain titles to certain lands lying north-west of the River Ohio, between the little Miami and Sciota," and an unspecified amendment to that act passed June 9, 1794 are mentioned as precedent for the certificate's authenticity.
