Mrs. Beaumez writes her niece Lucy Knox. She says her last letter were "dismal" because here "health and spirits were bad." Now they are well. She speaks of missing her children back in America, of what she hears from them, and of the little gifts she has sent to her family there. Mrs. Beaumez says she will soon be traveling to the country 100 miles from Calcutta.

This agreement says that "the subscriber expecting dayly to receive from Daniel Davis Esq. of Portland, an account of the sales of property in Falmouth hereby pledges himself as soon as he shall receive such account ...that he will transmit to Mrs. Bridge...an order for the amount which will probably be from 1400 to 1500 Dollars." Docket notes this document was given to Moses Copeland for Mr. Bridge.

A certificate certifying that Bradford tendered to Henry Knox a deed of land "lying in the county of Hankock and State of Massachusetts...by a certain agreement made with James Swan." The price was $2 an acre. At the bottom of the document it reads, "the subscriber cannot pronounce as to the validity of the deed nor the right of Mr. Swan to give such a deed.-He cannot accept it - nor pay the fifty thousand dollars."

Bradford tells Knox that "Mr. Wood has returned from Boston without the volume, which I mentioned to you I expected." He wants Knox to pass on to Knox's daughter Lucy that he will "be on the last of December." Bradford also says "I heard it mentioned by a gentleman lately from Boston, that Mr. Secy. Pickering and Genl Hamilton kept back some dispatches from France several weeks, when the President was at Quincy, which related to the affairs of the Envoys; an in consequence of which must ensure attaches to those Gentlemen. They are opposed to the Embassy, I imagine."

President Adams received Knox's letter of February 27. Adams expresses his concern that after recommending Knox's son, Henry, for a commission in the US Navy, the Senate did not approve. He tells Knox that there is little else he can do. Adams says, "the Navy however is a scene of momentous responsibility to me and if a ship should be lost by any Man for whom I shall have made myself thus exclusively answerable, you know what candid constructions will be put upon" me.

Knox's son has been under the command of Captain Barron as a lieutenant. Knox informs Barron that despite a recommendation from John Adams, "the Senate had declined to approve the nomination of the President of the United States of him as a Lieutenant of the Navy." Secretary of the Navy Stoddert suggested Henry Jackson Knox be a midshipman under Barron, but Knox believes his son would see that as a "degradation." Knox asks Barron, then, if his son Henry Jackson Knox could be "an acting Lieutenant with the emoluments only of a midshipman."

Was unable to forward the power of attorney to Knox via Mr. [Christopher] Gore, who returned to Boston earlier than she expected. Discusses her children's inheritance of a portion of the Waldo patent lands. Mentions that she would like Mr. [Christopher] Gore, Colonel [Jeremiah] Wadsworth, and her husband Mr. Beaumez to act as trustees. Touches on family gossip. Sends her love to Knox, his wife, and their children, Lucy, Julia, Washington and Caroline.
