Reports that a Squadron of Cavalry under Major Beveridge 8th Illinois was sent to his Head Quarters (possibly referring to John Lourie Beveridge). Recently went to "Edsel's Hill." Saw the Widow Fitzhugh, whom he claims has protection from Generals [Levit?], Blenker, and Franklin (possibly Louis Blenker and William Buel Franklin). Notes that the widow has no forage or stock beyond what she needs. Mentions Burt's Station. Comments on stock and supplies, mentioning civilians living near the Little River Turnpike.

Four autograph copies of notes that were sent to Beauregard as telegrams. Telegrams relate to various preparations for military action and the defense of Confederate positions in Mississippi. All telegrams were sent to Beauregard in Tupelo, Mississippi. Discusses protecting plantation boats, the enemy at Holly Springs, the position of repairing machinery, and the need for railroad cars to transport men and supplies.

According to Sabin, this is "generally considered the best contemporary account of the Revolution written from the British side." Stedman was a native of Philadelphia, a Loyalist who served as an officer under Howe, and later an examiner of Loyalist claims for the British government. Also mentions that all food and supplies needed by the soldiers will be paid for in full, unlike the guerillas who have ransacked villages and stolen property. Adds that vendors will have the protection of the U.S. Army.
