Writes from Camp Wayne, communicating that he is glad she is feeling better. Reports that he got his fatigue suit. Expresses concern that he does not know when he will get his furlough, as three boys have recently gotten sick and will get a furlough before this. States he is now enrolled in "7 Regiment of Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Commanded by Colonel Harvey." Tells her each regiment has 1046 men in it, and each company has 101 men.

Reports from Camp Wayne to his cousin. Indicates he is now in the 7th Pennsylvania Regiment of the Reserve Corps, commanded by Colonel Harvey. Asks if Benjamen would come for a visit, telling him that the fare is 65 cents each way. Suggests that his cousin should enlist in the Reserve Corps or Bakers California Regiment. Requests his letters be sent to: Douglas guards in care of Captain Martins, Camp Wayne, West Chester, PA. Envelope addressed to Benjamen H. Tyre, in care of Albert Beckman, N.W. Letter to Secretary of the Treasury Thomas Corwin. States that in a previous letter, Secretary Corwin had referred to a report by Congressman Seymour regarding the alleged loss of $1000 by Ulysses S. Grant. Responds that he examined the accounts and correspondence, and no mention has been made in them of any monies Grant reported lost or stolen, so no action could be taken in that regard. His money returns acknowledge receipt of the $1000 and that this amount still appears on his balance sheet.

Responds to Congressman Seymour's request for information on the Grant case. Replies, "no credit can be given on account of such alleged loss unless expressly authorized by Act of Congress. I am not aware of any case where this Department has undertaken to decide the complicated questions of vigilance, fidelity, and the possibility of fraud and connivance, which arise in most of such cases. The accounting officer only settle such accounts upon the proper vouchers. If these are not produced, it has always been held that relief could only be given by Act of Congress."

The enemy Sergeant was so pleased he shook his hand.
